IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING A FOOD JOURNAL

Accountability for what you eat is very important. A few bites from your significant other’s plate and your daily diet can make a big difference when you try to live a happy and healthy life. Whether you are trying to lose weight or trying to eat healthy food keeping your journal healthy can make a big difference. Writing down a snack such as a cold drink, and the carbs you are eating will make you more responsive to what you are eating. Here are a few benefits to keeping a food journal.

Eliminate Junk Food

Sometimes you eat, not knowing how many calories you eat because of distractions from people around you or activities near you or while watching Netflix. An unhealthy diet contributes to more food than you need. The diet journal will help you with the self-control by helping you to accept behavioral changes quickly. If you find it difficult to write down everything you can always take pictures or use one of the memo apps to write.

Find Food Intolerance

A food journal can also help determine if you have a severe reaction to a particular food. In some cases, reactions to different foods may occur several hours after the meal has been eaten. Keeping a record of what you eat and how you feel afterward may help you to determine what foods your body reacts to. If you feel bloated and nauseous after eating eggs, milk, or gluten-free products you may not tolerate these foods.

Better Nutrition

Keeping a journal or tracking your entire diet will reveal more than just calorie intake and food intolerance, it may also indicate whether you are eating enough for each food group (carbs, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals). If your food journal contains mainly carbohydrates and proteins so you do not get the vitamins you need from fruits and vegetables. Maintaining a regular diet will allow you to analyze which energy you are not eating enough and which ones you are eating the most.

Identify The Reasons

What do you eat when you are not hungry? Why choose to eat cake over fruit? Why buy some junk food groceries that you do not need? These are all common food questions that can help you answer them. Taking notes on your energy level, mood, and stomach satisfaction will allow you to link your food choices with your health. You will learn more about your food intolerance and how you eat more if you are upset and happy or lonely or eat less. Awareness will allow you to develop new eating habits that will lead you to a healthier lifestyle.

Control Over the Food Portions

Keeping a food journal is also a great way to manage portions of your food. It can be hard to control your restaurant parts that offer a huge plate and gas stations with a jumbo cup of Soda. Even cans of cake and dinner plates are bigger than ever. Using a food journal will keep you accountable for the size of your diet. Before starting your general diet do some research on the right size according to your age and weight and height and base your diet on the information you receive.

Comparing Ideas with Reality

You may not believe that you drink tons of water a day, and eat recommended fruits and vegetables but in food journals that open your eyes to a new reality, you may find that you need more variety in your diet using corn, cucumbers, and carrots as a side dish instead of potato chips.
