Food and Spirituality
The food we consume daily has direct effect on our health, we all know that, but do you know it effects our spiritual health too?
Before moving any further, I’m going to explain what spirituality actually is. Spirituality is a broad concept and in simple words it can be defined as:
“Search for purpose and meaning of life”
You might have gotten the hint that in this article I will be discussing about how the food we eat daily effects our spiritual health.
So, let’s begin
Health:
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health is a:
“state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
So even if you might look fit and free from any disease, it doesn’t mean that you’re healthy.
Our mind, body and emotions are all connected to each other and if one thing is affected, it hinders the function of other things too.
You might have noticed that if you have a headache or a pain in some area of your body, it makes it challenging to think about anything else.
It means health is not just related to our physical health, we must take care of our mental, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being too.
You might be wondering how to do it? Don’t worry, in this blog we will be giving different tips on how to take care of yourself mentally and physically.
Good Food:
What is a good food? A good food is something which contains good things.
What are good things? Vitamins and nutrients etc, they are not/least processed. Some examples of good foods are:
- · Vegetables and fruits
- · Meat (Red and White Meat)
- · Grains
- · Nuts
Bad Food:
What is a bad food? A bad food is something which does not contains good things.
What are good things? Vitamins and nutrients etc. These are highly processed and bad for our health. Some examples of bad foods are:
- · Sugar
- · Snacks
- · Soft Drinks (Coke)
- · Energy Drinks (Redbull)
You want to know how to identify them? It’s pretty easy:
- They have fancy eye catching packaging
- They claim they are good for your health
- They are made of a long list of ingredients
Effect of sleep on spirituality:
You might have noticed that we are always willing to compromise our sleep for anything, whether it’s for our exams or going out with friends. Is it a logical thing to do?
No, it is completely wrong. Not getting enough sleep is always a bad idea and you feel irritated, miserable, and least productive. It is also a very good way to increase the risk of many life taking diseases and jeopardising your mental and spiritual health.
Not getting enough sleep have a negative impact on memory and learning abilities, people tend to be pessimist and recall negative things more and that’s not a good thing because it is a beginning of being in depression.
So don’t give a shit about anything and have a good night sleep of 8 hours daily to have a good health (physical and spiritual).
Don’t eat too much:
Yes you read me right, I’ve been promoting to eat the right food but now, I will say don’t eat too much.
I always get sleepy when I eat too much, can’t get anything done, and you won’t believe me I resist watching Netflix too because I’m too tired from eating.
Can you relate? If yes, then listen to me and have a balanced diet. If you can’t figure out what is a balanced diet according to your age, then don’t worry and visit our blog regularly, we will definitely publish an article on this topic soon.
